Cecelia and Vivian love that song, but had no idea who Buddy Holly was. I'm not sure they know a whole lot about him even now, but they got a bit of a crash-course in music history when we visited Clear Lake, Iowa. We went to the Surf Ballroom which was the last place that Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper played before their deaths.
We looked at photos, newspaper clippings, and souvenirs (passing up our chance to buy a plastic replica pair of "Buddy Holly glasses.") We also visited the memorial built for the 3 musicians and the pilot who died in the plane crash.
It's a neat place with interesting, though sad, history and wandering around there provided a good chance for us to stretch our legs. The kids also got a little education out of the experience and thought Buddy Holly was pretty cool when I put "That'll Be The Day" and "Peggy Sue" on in the car.

Hello, Anna. You should go back to the Surf Ballroom when they have their annual event in Feb. It is tons of fun. I went years ago with my sister when her then boyfriend's band played at the event. Super cool. Take care, Cindy
